Project Accountant
This role is responsible for managing the financial lifecycle of construction or project-based jobs from setup through closeout. This role partners closely with Project Managers, Operations, and Finance to ensure accurate job costing, billing, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete financial records for assigned projects from initiation through completion
- Set up new projects within accounting system and review contract terms
- Monitor and track job costs, budgets, and project profitability
- Prepare and submit monthly billings, including AIA progress billing and draw packages
- Review and process subcontractor invoices, change orders, and purchase orders
- Ensure timely payments to vendors and subcontractors and track lien waivers/releases
- Reconcile project-related accounts and investigate discrepancies
- Assist Project Managers with financial reporting, forecasting, and cost analysis
- Manage accounts receivable collections and ensure timely receipt of client payments
- Support month-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field a Plus
- 3-5+ years of experience in project accounting, preferably within construction or general contracting
- Strong understanding of job costing, WIP, and construction billing practices
- Experience with accounting software such as Sage, Timberline, Procore, Deltek, or Vista preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of lien waivers, subcontractor billing, and contract compliance
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
